PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Loyola University Maryland and Newcastle University have expanded their long standing partnership in the establishment of the Loyola University Maryland Center at Newcastle University. Loyola established a relationship with Newcastle University in the mid1990s. Loyola will be offering students from American universities across the US the opportunity to study abroad through The Center beginning spring 2014, allowing American undergraduate students the chance study in the British town, Newcastle upon Tyne. Because students will be studying through Loyola University Maryland, they will receive a Loyola transcript with American credits and grades, making the credits easily transferable to other American universities. This is a fully packaged program that includes Loyola tuition and fees, housing, airfare, and many other program benefits. Newcastle has world-renowned Science/Biomedical Schools as well as excellent Business and Humanities schools. There are about 20,000 students at Newcastle University with an international population of approximately 5,000 students. This program works best for Science majors but is open to students in all degree programs.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS: This Loyola Center at Newcastle provides many program benefits. Students have the opportunity to study abroad for the fall semester, spring semester, or a full year. The program includes Loyola tuition and fees for 15 credits for 1 semester and 30 credits for the full year, accommodation, 1 round trip airfare ticket per semester, a full time on-site director, multiple day and overnight trips throughout the UK, 1 weekend trip in Europe for fall semester students only, 1 week long trip in Europe for spring and full year students, celebrations for holidays and other special occasions, and various program sponsored meals. Students are able to take courses both inside and outside of their major.

ELIGIBILITY: Minimum GPA Requirement: 2.75, No serious disciplinary record, Must be enrolled in a 4 year credited American university, Must be at a junior standing during time abroad, Prepare a 500 word essay explaining why you would like to participate in the program, Provide current official transcript from your home university, Obtain a letter of recommendation from a faculty member

CREDITS: Full Year: 30 US Credits One Semester: 15 US Credits

HOUSING: Students will stay in university self-catered accommodation. Students will live in a 6 bedroom flat which includes their own private bedroom, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, and common area.

PROGRAM NAME: Fordham London Liberal Arts Program


PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Fordham’s London Centre in Kensington Square is the site of an exciting and innovative fall semester study abroad program. Offered to sophomores, juniors, or seniors, the program allows participants to engage in research while experiencing diverse academic settings.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS: Fordham’s London Centre London as Classroom program focuses on one 4–credit core course, a 2–credit research module that will require independent work related to but not limited by the course content, and three further courses which will be chosen from the offerings of the Fordham London Centre and direct enrollment in one of five local universities: Queen Mary, University of London; Heythrop College, University of London; City University; University of Westminster; Roehampton University.

The program includes study tours that will enhance the students’ classroom experience. Excursions are planned to Winchester (cathedral, great hall), Stonehenge, Canterbury (cathedral, river tour), Bath (the Roman baths), and Glastonbury (the legendary Avalon). We will also schedule a group visit to a play at the Globe Theatre and a manuscript workshop at the British Library for those who are interested. These activities are subject to change; we will make an effort to incorporate current events (plays, exhibitions) as well as the interests of the student group.
