PROGRAM LOCATION: Burkina Faso, West Africa

The Santa Clara University Fall Semester Study Abroad/Immersion in Burkina Faso is a study abroad program for students interested in combining academic work on the development challenges of West Africa with immersion and community-based learning experiences in public libraries in small towns and villages in rural areas. Students spend the first six weeks of the program in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, the second six weeks in a rural village in southwestern Burkina Faso, a week of travel in the region, and a final two weeks back in Ouagadougou. French is recommended but not required. Students without French background must take an introductory conversational French and West African culture course. Continue reading

PROGRAM NAME: Casa de la Solidaridad
-The mission of the Casa is the promotion of justice and solidarity through the creation of a meaningful academic experience where students integrate rigorous academic study with direction immersion with the poor of El Salvador.
-Dedicated to fostering “men and women for others,” Casa is a unique community-based learning program where students develop intellectual potential, strengthen their ethical and religious values, and learn to become socially responsible global citizen. Students live in three houses and are invited to help create their community environment by abiding with various norms and common experiences. They are supported by local staff, community facilitators, and local faculty. Continue reading
